Elie Saab (Elī Saab) – it is a synonym for high fashion. The brand was founded in 1982 by Lebanese couturier Elī Saab. The young man was born in Beirut in 1964. Elī's family had no connection to fashion, but the boy had a vivid imagination and endless dreams of magical countries. At the age of nine, Elī created his first designer dress for his sister. It turned out to be so beautiful that Elī began to be approached by acquaintances and neighbors, then by city dwellers, and finally, the fame of the young master spread throughout Lebanon. In 1981, the boy went to Paris to learn the secrets of design mastery.
At the age of 18, the young man opened his own Fashion House in Beirut and hired a dozen tailors. There was no shortage of orders, all Lebanese fashionistas wanted a dress by Elī. The boy was not deterred even by a complex political situation. The debut show took place solely at Elī's own expense at the Casino du Liban. In the 90s, the brand became so popular that special orders were fulfilled for Switzerland and France.
In 1997, Elie Saab became the first non-Italian brand of the Italian National Fashion House. The first show outside of Lebanon took place in Rome at Alta Moda Fashion Week. These were luxurious Haute Couture dresses - feminine, alluring, seductive. A year later, a ready-to-wear Pret-a-Porter collection was introduced. International fame came to the Lebanese designer in 2002 when Halle Berry wore an Elie Saab dress to the Oscars. It was a wine-colored dress with flower appliques on the bodice.
In May 2003, Elī Saab became a member of the Paris Syndicate of High Fashion, and the brand's next couture collection was presented at Paris Fashion Week. Since then, Elie Saab collections have been presented exclusively in Paris. The debut flagship boutique was opened in Beirut in 2005. And in 2007, a large multi-story store opened on the Champs-Élysées in Paris.
