Men's suits are an intriguing tale. Intrigued? Click "Read more".
The initial appearance of men's jackets can be traced back to France in the early 17th century, although some fashion historians dispute this claim and assert that Arabs wore jackets a thousand years ago. Regardless, jackets in France were not mere garments but rather a privileged attire that could only be worn with the king's permission. A fascinating aspect of jackets is the addition of non-functional buttons on the sleeves. How did this idea come about? During the war with Russia, Napoleon Bonaparte ordered buttons to be sewn onto the sleeves to prevent his ailing generals and admirals from using them to wipe their noses. Although the fashion trends for jackets evolved over time, the buttons remained on the sleeves. In the 20th century, jackets gained popularity among men for everyday wear. In 1990, the renowned fashion house Dolce & Gabbana unveiled their first men's collection to the world, earning the prestigious Woolmark Award for it. Furthermore, in 1994, they introduced their iconic double-breasted jacket "La Turlington," named after the American model Christy Turlington.
