Off-White - a youthful and bold American streetwear brand that emerged in 2013. Its founder, Virgil Abloh, was born in 1980. The boy's parents are from Ghana, his mother worked as a seamstress, and his father was a manager. Abloh himself has had an interest in creativity since his childhood and after completing school, he enrolled in university where he pursued studies in construction and architecture. In 2009, the young man, who had a serious interest in the fashion world, began interning at Fendi. It was during this time that he had a fateful encounter with businessman and rapper Kanye West. Later on, Abloh started working for Kanye, taking on the role of creative director for the company Donda.
In 2012, Abloh made his first attempt as an independent clothing designer, but the venture was unsuccessful. The reason being that he decided to purchase clothes from Ralph Lauren's previous collections, adorn them with prints, and sell them at significantly higher prices. It seemed like a commendable idea for environmentally friendly fashion. The clothing from the newly established brand Purex Vision featured Kanye West and Jay-Z. However, due to public dissatisfaction, the company quickly closed.
However, Abloh didn't give up, and in 2013 he introduced the Off-White brand to the world. It showcased typical streetwear - wide-legged pants, oversized hoodies and t-shirts, vibrant branded inscriptions, 3D prints, graphics, and innovative designs. The two-meter yellow-black belt with the "Off-White" inscription even became an emblem of the decade. Abloh successfully captured the essence of fashion trends, and his brand rapidly conquered the global market within a few years. Additionally, a children's line was introduced.
