Off-White - a brand created by Virgil Abloh in 2013 that is popular among young Americans. Abloh was born in 1980 to a seamstress and a manager, both originally from Ghana but moved to the United States before Abloh's birth. Abloh had a passion for art and creativity since he was a child. After completing school, he attended college and earned a degree in construction and architecture, although he never pursued a career in that field. In 2009, Abloh interned at Fendi, where he had a life-changing encounter with Kanye West, a renowned rapper and entrepreneur. Kanye later invited Abloh to work at his company, Donda, where Abloh became the creative director, designing outfits for the rapper, assisting with album cover designs, and organizing shows.
In 2012, Abloh decided to create his own brand, which led to the birth of Purex Vision. The designer simply purchased old Ralph Lauren collections, added his own prints to the clothing, and sold them at a much higher price. Kanye West and Jay-Z even wore these outfits. However, Purex Vision was short-lived and closed less than a year after its launch.
In 2013, Abloh made a serious commitment and introduced Off-White. The brand quickly became known for its street style, featuring oversized hoodies, comfortable wide pants, vibrant t-shirts, baseball caps, hats, scarves, bomber jackets, shorts, belts, and more. The dominant colors are yellow and black, with the black and yellow Off-White belt becoming a symbol of the decade.
