Moncler is a French brand established by René Ramillon in 1952. Initially, René acquired multiple patents to enhance ski bindings, and subsequently founded his own brand. The name Moncler originates from the town near Grenoble, Monestier-de-Clermont. During that time, the company exclusively manufactured gear for mountaineers such as tents and sleeping bags. Approximately 8,000,000 French francs were invested in production development, and René entrusted his friend André Vincent with the management. By 1954, the duo began producing their distinctive down jackets and caught the attention of renowned mountaineer Lionel Terray, leading to a collaborative product line. Moncler supplied all the equipment for the mountaineering team. By the 1960s, Moncler gained acclaim from celebrities, including Brigitte Bardot. The brand's logo, depicting a mountain and a Gallic rooster (symbolizing the country), was created in 1968 while developing equipment for the French national ski team. In the 1970s, Moncler achieved global popularity, introducing windbreakers-anoraks and the first nylon down jacket "Nepal" with leather accents.
In 1980, the company's management transitioned to Chantal Thomass. She infused the brand with more elegance, fashion, and refinement. The products featured fur, silk, satin embellishments, and buttons replaced zipper fasteners. A collection of brightly colored Japanese nylon down jackets was launched. The collection debuted at Fashion Week in 1999. By 2002, Moncler expanded its offerings with a line of trendy clothing and accessories for men, and in 2009, a children's collection was introduced. Presently, Moncler boasts over 90 boutiques worldwide.
