Doucal's, an Italian label established in 1968 by Mario Giannini in Marche, Montegranara, began as a small workshop crafting men's shoes, including boots and loafers. Originally known as Ducale, the brand underwent rebranding in 1973, becoming widely recognized as Doucal's. Mario, an admirer of English style and skilled in handcrafted work, passed down the business to his sons Gianni and Jerry, the former a master shoemaker and the latter a skilled financier. The brand's shoes gained acclaim for their Italian quality, comfort, and English-inspired designs.
Today, Doucal's remains committed to these Italian traditions. The factory occupies a historic 19th-century farmhouse building, along with six adjoining rooms, covering a total area of 3,600 square meters. Employees typically walk to work, enjoying the picturesque landscapes of the surrounding hills and the glimpse of the sea on the horizon.
Doucal's continues to craft shoes by hand, with each pair taking approximately 33 hours to create. The shoes are made using leather, textile, and suede, incorporating various finishes such as printed patterns, embossed leather, grainy textures, matte surfaces, woven designs, and artificially aged looks. The collection encompasses timeless English classics like Oxfords, Monks, loafers, topsiders, Derbies, Chelseas, and desert boots. Additionally, insulated variations with fur lining are available. The range is complemented by more contemporary models, including slippers with white soles, stylish leather sneakers and trainers, fashionable boots, and espadrilles. For the summer season, there are also delightful flip-flops and sandals.
