In 1992, Miuccia Prada, the granddaughter of the founder of Prada, established her own brand, Miu Miu, with the aim of appealing to a younger demographic. The name "Miu Miu" was chosen by Miuccia as it was her childhood nickname.

Around the same time, Vogue and Harper's Bazaar were the first magazines to feature photos of the new collections. This marked the beginning of Miu Miu brand stores opening worldwide, including in America, China, and Japan.
In 2008, the release of men's collections by Miu Miu was halted, and the brand shifted its focus towards creating women's looks.
