Marie Adélaïde Nielly and the Birth of Nina Ricci

Established in 1932 by Marie Adélaïde Nielly, an Italian immigrant who settled in Paris, the renowned fashion house Nina Ricci has a fascinating history. Prior to her venture, Marie worked as a milliner in a sewing workshop, diligently sewing buttons and ironing garments. She later joined the Rafern fashion house as a designer. Despite her divorce from Louis Ricci, a florist, Marie chose to retain the name, giving birth to the iconic Nina Ricci. It was only at the age of 50 that Marie, accompanied by her son, decided to embark on her own fashion venture in the heart of Paris. The hallmark of Nina Ricci's creations was their delicate and feminine nature, often adorned with satin ribbons and bows. Luxurious materials such as natural silk, velvet, organza, and lace were meticulously incorporated into the designs.

Transition and Expansion

In the 1950s, Marie stepped away from the business, paving the way for Robert to bring on Jules-François Crahay, a talented Belgian, as the creative director. This marked a significant turning point for the brand. Later on, the fashion house successfully entered the Japanese market, and in 1986, they launched their menswear line. Following Robert's passing, Gilles Fuchs, Marie's son-in-law, assumed the role of manager. Currently, the creative director of Nina Ricci is Peter Copping.

Celebrity Endorsement and Timeless Elegance

Nina Ricci's creations have captivated numerous celebrities, including Natalie Portman, Nicole Kidman, Penélope Cruz, Halle Berry, Charlize Theron, Reese Witherspoon, Laetitia Casta, and Keira Knightley, among others. Today, the brand is synonymous with a refined and authentic style. The fashion house offers a wide range of luxurious garments, including exquisite dresses, elegant shirts and tops, extravagant silk jackets, classic wool trousers, cozy sweaters, and stylish vests. The Nina Ricci 2019-2020 runway collection showcases elegant hats, flowing semi-transparent fabrics, and intricately designed oversized coats.
