Marc Jacobs for Women

The Achievements of the Marc Jacobs Brand

The esteemed designer Marc Jacobs commenced his professional journey as a salesperson in a cutting-edge boutique in New York. He possesses a remarkable talent for understanding his clients' preferences and creating garments that people aspire to wear.

The Marc Jacobs brand is inseparable from its creator - designer Jacobs, who serves as its face. His grandmother, a devoted knitting enthusiast, played a pivotal role in cultivating his appreciation for beauty and exerted the greatest influence on her grandson.

The Journey to Global Recognition

The renowned designer was born in 1963 in New York. He tragically lost his father at a very young age. As his mother pursued personal relationships, the family had to frequently change their place of residence. Mark's grandmother took him to live with her in a mansion in Manhattan, and he holds fond memories of those times.

While working at the Charivari boutique, Mark Jacobs encountered a prominent figure in the fashion industry - designer Perry Ellis. Ellis's appearance and clothing deeply impressed the future designer and served as a significant inspiration. Six years later, during his time at design school, Mark received an award from Ellis. He also engaged in knitting and was a frequent visitor of rock and roll establishments.

In 1984, Mark crossed paths with his future business partner Robert Duffy. Their friendship endured a lifetime, and Duffy's role as a designer fueled their creativity. Their collaboration eventually led to the establishment of Jacobs Duffy Designs, which became a highly sought-after destination for fashion enthusiasts.

After being named a finalist in a young designers' competition in 1986, Mark began working tirelessly. His signature style involved transforming high-end items into super casual pieces. For instance, he sold crumpled cashmere sweaters for $1200. Mark and Robert gained popularity and received media attention, with famous models showcasing their products free of charge. Unfortunately, this success did not translate into significant profits.

In the Perry Ellis House, the two young individuals discovered great opportunities: Mark was appointed as the creative director, while his friend assumed the role of president. However, the weight of the responsibility frightened the designer.

In 1993, the Marc Jacobs brand was officially launched. The garments offered by him today prominently feature grunge style elements:

  • chunky footwear;
  • distressed ripped sweaters;
  • oversized models;
  • decorations, abundant hardware, and aged elements.

2001 marked a pivotal moment in Mark's professional career as he garnered seven CDFA awards. Jacobs was recognized as the best designer of clothing for both men and women, as well as accessories. His involvement in developing models for Louis Vuitton contributed to the company's increased profits.

By 2006, there were approximately sixty designer boutiques. Two distinct approaches to fashion were employed:

  • the approach used for Louis Vuitton;
  • his own approach.

For sixteen years, the designer served as the art director of Louis Vuitton. However, starting from 2013, he made the decision to exclusively devote himself to his own brand.

Currently, purchasing Marc Jacobs entails acquiring models from three designer collections as listed below:

  • Marc by Marc Jacobs: The collection is considered democratic and highly popular.
  • The Marc Jacobs Collection: It is renowned for its refinement and exclusivity.
  • Little Marc: Belongs to the children's line.

The Marc Jacobs brand also extends its offerings to accessories such as bags and eyewear. The brand's fragrances are also widely recognized.
